Description
This is a species of Tabebuia, considered moderate in size as it measures around 20-30 feet tall, with an irregular, oval shape, with an open crown which tapers towards the top. The bark is rough, wrinkled and silvery gray. Leaves (and flowers) are variable on the same tree, as suggested by the species name; They are dark green, palmately compound, leathery, opposite or sub-opposite on the branches, oblong or oval in shape measuring 6-12 inches; The edges of these are whole or wavy. The flowers are borne in clusters at the ends of the branch, variably pink in color, very showy, trumpet-shaped and approximately 3 inches long. Its pollinators include hummingbirds, bees and other insects. The flower produces a carpet of pink petals under the tree. The fruits are narrow, cylindrical, maturing green to brown, dry, bean-like capsules, up to 8 inches long. Propagation can be from seeds or cuttings. This tree can grow in almost any type of well-drained soil and is hardy in urban environments; It does not suffer from serious pests or diseases.
